Many writers are self-proclaimed perfectionists. But let me ask you this: Has anyone ever written a perfect book? Does a perfect book exist? And by perfect, I don’t mean a favorite to many, but a book that’s objectively better than every other book; excellent or complete beyond practical or theoretical improvement.

Unfortunately, what’s perfect for you is a waste of good trees for others.

And that’s okay. Readers don’t go raiding bookshops for perfect novels. They are on the lookout for something interesting, or want to read what their friends are reading.

That’s all there is to it. Write an interesting book that people want to talk about, and you’ll join the ranks of bestselling authors.
