Did you know that the word followers has its origin in the ancient tradition of following philosophers on their long walks? The great intellectuals of antiquity would really think on their feet.

Have you tried, so to speak, to follow in their footsteps?

Leave your phone and your earbuds home, then go out for a long walk.

March at a brisk pace, enough to warm you up, but not so you get short of breath, then ask yourself a question that’s been bothering you lately like, “How can I make the opening scene of my book more engaging?”

Listen in on your thoughts. If a line of reasoning trails off, let it trail off, it’s best if your thoughts aren’t too structured. Let your brain do the work for you. You’d be amazed at what it can come up with.

Try it and see what happens.
